Shaping the future of Beta Alpha Psi: A young leader’s vision for alumni engagement

When Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Business Analytics graduate Adyant Modi reflects on his time at Deakin, he describes it as a journey shaped by community, purpose and the confidence that grows when people invest in one another.

His recent appointment as a Mid-Year Representative on the Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) Alumni Taskforce is a natural extension of that journey and attests to the leadership talent emerging from the Deakin Xi-Kappa Chapter.

Adyant will represent the entire Oceania region and the international chapter in Saudi Arabia, working alongside peers and senior alumni to strengthen global engagement. It is a significant responsibility for a recent graduate, and one he approaches with clarity and optimism.

A leadership path built through service

Adyant joined Deakin in 2021 as an international student motivated to contribute meaningfully to his new community. He quickly became an active presence on campus — serving as a residential leader, leading a 15-member student society and advocating for international student voices through Study Melbourne and Deakin Business School’s Student Engagement and Experience Committee.

He also discovered a passion for public speaking and mentoring, delivering workshops for more than 1,000 students. These roles shaped his understanding of leadership as something shared: listening, encouraging and building space for others to succeed.

That mindset later guided his progression through BAP.

From local chapter leader to global collaborator

Adyant joined Beta Alpha Psi in late 2022 and soon stepped into roles that helped strengthen the Deakin chapter’s culture and visibility. As Memberships and Events Officer, then President in 2024, he coordinated professional development sessions with firms such as EY, Deloitte and CAANZ, grew industry connections and led the chapter to achieve Gold Chapter Status for the first time.

He also represented Deakin at major BAP conferences in Auckland, Melbourne and Orlando, collaborating with students from the United States in the Project Run With It competition. These experiences broadened his perspective and underscored the value of professional communities that operate across borders.

By 2025, as Executive Chair, his focus shifted to long-term strategy and supporting emerging student leaders, providing essential experience for the next step.

What it means to join the Alumni Taskforce

The BAP Alumni Taskforce plays a key role in strengthening the organisation’s global network. Mid-Year Representatives work closely with regional Alumni Advocates, who sit on the international Board of Directors, ensuring student and early-career perspectives are heard at governance level.

Adyant’s appointment followed a competitive selection process, including a written application, faculty endorsements and review by the Board. For him, the role represents both recognition and responsibility.

‘This position is a bridge,’ he explains. ‘We carry forward the experiences and needs of students and early alumni, and help shape initiatives that make chapters stronger and more connected.’

A vision for Oceania’s alumni community

In the year ahead, Adyant’s focus will be on expanding alumni engagement across Australia and New Zealand. His team is already developing initiatives that bring together past and current members, create visible pathways for professional involvement and strengthen relationships with industry partners.

A major milestone will be the 2026 Mid-Year Meeting in Sydney, where he is helping plan alumni-focused events designed to deepen connections between chapters and showcase the region’s growing influence within BAP.

‘Our goal is to build an alumni community that feels active, valued and involved,’ he says. ‘When alumni stay connected, students benefit, partnerships strengthen and the organisation as a whole becomes more resilient.’

Leading with purpose beyond graduation

As Adyant looks to his future after his Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Business Analytics in 2025, it is his commitment to community that connects each chapter of his story. His appointment to the BAP Alumni Taskforce is further progress down a leadership path grounded in service and shared ambition.

For Deakin, his achievement reflects the values that define the Faculty of Business and Law: developing capable, ethical and globally minded leaders who create positive impact wherever they go.
And for Adyant, it is simply the next opportunity to support others.

‘I’ve grown because people invested in me,’ he says. ‘Now it’s my turn to keep giving back and help create opportunities for those who come after.’
