Deakin Business School announces Macro Development Workshop 2024

Deakin Business School is pleased to announce the second annual Macro Development Workshop will be occurring in Melbourne, Australia, on August 22-23, 2024.

Initiated in 2023, this annual workshop aims to bring together researchers interested in development issues from a macro perspective to share and discuss ideas, present research, and network with others who have similar interests.

International keynote speaker Professor Francisco Buera

Deakin Business School is delighted to announce that Professor Francisco Buera will be presenting the keynote address this year.

Professor Francisco Buera is the Sam B. Cook Professor of Economics at Washington University in St. Louis. His research focuses on the macroeconomic aspects of economic development (macro-development). He builds macro models with empirically motivated micro-economic considerations, such as heterogeneity across sectors and individuals, and market frictions. The goal is to evaluate the quantitative performance of different theories.

Professor Buera studies topics including the role of financial markets in the process of development, the forces driving the changes in the structure of production over time, the diffusion of technologies, economic policies and institutions across countries. Professor Buera also applies some of the quantitative methods that he developed to understand economic development to study financial crisis in developed economies.

Call for Papers

If you’d like to be a part of this event, full papers or extended abstracts in any area related to macro development are invited. Both theoretical and empirical papers are welcome. Please submit papers by email to macrodev.annual@gmail.com by 15 June 2024. Acceptance notifications will be sent by 22 June 2024.

Registration opens June 22

This two-day event is free but registration is mandatory. Put the event dates in your calendar and refer back to the event website for registration details on 22 June 2024. (Please note registration will close on 10 August 2024.) Registration includes the workshop dinner (Thursday evening) and lunch on both days, plus catered coffee breaks.
