Deakin’s new Graduate Certificate of Healthcare Management meets the education needs of both individuals and organisations.

In response to a growing demand for skilled and highly-qualified healthcare managers, Deakin is now offering a Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management (GCHM) for busy healthcare professionals.

With tailored units from Deakin Business School’s MBA program and the School of Medicine, the GCHM is a four-unit course for professionals who want a leading healthcare management qualification without a lengthy study commitment.

Associate Professor Sandeep Reddy, Director of the Deakin MBA(HCM) says the course has been developed to fill the gap in Australia and the Asia-Pacific for qualified professionals to lead and manage healthcare service delivery.

‘It also caters for the growing number of professionals who are looking for a short, condensed healthcare management qualification to boost their existing skills or develop new ones.

‘It particularly caters for students who may not have the time or funding to enrol into the longer MBA course but need a qualification to demonstrate their healthcare management skills and knowledge,’ he explains.

Under the wide umbrella of public health, healthcare management is a specialised discipline that brings together areas such as logistics, workforce, operations management, resource allocation, clinical governance, health informatics, and leadership.

‘As important as clinicians are in delivering healthcare services, it’s also critical that healthcare services are managed efficiently,’ says Assoc. Prof. Reddy.

Offered both online and on-campus, the GHCM is also designed for organisations such as Eastern Health – one of Melbourne’s largest public health services – which has partnered with Deakin to embed the course into its professional development program.

‘Eastern Health is delighted to confirm this partnership arrangement with Deakin University which provides an opportunity to support our current and future health care leaders to gain a qualification that is both relevant and beneficial to their role – ultimately improving their capacity to deliver excellence in patient care,’ says Nicole Argall, Eastern Health’s Director of Learning and Teaching, Specialist and Advanced Practice.

Assoc. Prof. Reddy says the GHCM is a unique educational offering for both individuals and institutions.

‘Offering subject of choice flexibility, this is a targeted and practical healthcare management qualification for professionals who want to utilise business skills in a health context. Deakin is also one of only a few universities that offers a pathway from a graduate certificate to an accredited and highly-respected MBA.’
