DBS wins 2018 Green Gown Award for ‘Learning, Teaching & Skills’.

Deakin Business School (DBS) recently took home the 2018 Green Gown Award for ‘Learning, Teaching & Skills’.

The Green Gown Awards is the first and only awards scheme aimed at recognising achievements in sustainability in institutes Australasia-wide. Having run for nine years by Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS), the scheme is regarded as the most prestigious of its kind.

DBS’s submission – ‘Bringing about a cultural shift for meaningfully integrating sustainability across mainstream curricula in Deakin Business School’ – outlined plans to increase student employability and engagement with the wider community in order to promote a cultural shift towards practises and values upheld by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals agenda.

Deakin University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Jane den Hollander AO sees this award as a valuable recognition of DBS’s innovative approach to sustainability: ‘Our business school is promoting sustainability in action by strengthening the nexus between graduate employability and sustainability capability. Winning this Green Gown Award celebrates Deakin’s commitment to engage our students, staff, industry partners and the wider community in advancing the UN’s sustainable development goals.’
The ceremony was held on November 1. DBS was shortlisted alongside two other entrants in the category of Learning, Teaching and Skills, earning its place as a finalist amongst 18 other institutes. The ten categories awarded covered a range of topics including student engagement, leadership, and campus sustainability.
