Celebrating 10 years of practical learning in partnership with the City of Whitehorse.

The Whitehorse Tertiary Business Skills Program for 2018 concluded with an inaugural awards night. Faculty of Business and Law Students and businesses came together to celebrate their achievements and commemorate the 10 year anniversary of the program. Additionally, Will Gerhards, the Assistant Manager for the Investment and Economic Development Unit in the Whitehorse City Council was recognised for his continual contribution to the program.

Led by the Faculty of Business and Law Work Integrated Learning team in an ongoing partnership with the City of Whitehorse, the award-winning program provides business students with the opportunity to undergo internships at local businesses in the Whitehorse municipality.

From early July to September, students worked one day per week in a variety of disciplines to supplement their respective degrees.

Katarina Djordjic participated in an internship with Stocktake and Leggo Blackburn while completing her Bachelor of Property and Real Estate. ‘Through this elective I was able to experience the reality of working in the field which has led to a full-time position in real estate. I’m currently working in the residential field which is providing me with the practical experience.'

Over the course of 10 years, the program has provided hands-on business experience to over 200 students to a number of businesses including L’Oreal Australia, International Needs Australia, and the aforementioned Stocktake and Leggo Blackburn.

23 Faculty of Business and Law students participated in 2018 – a number which has doubled over the previous five years. The program also received a silver medal from the National Local Government Innovation awards – which aim to celebrate the efforts of local government projects that focus on providing services in efficient and resourceful ways.
