A fantastic opportunity for businesses to understand the importance of internships.
Whitehorse City Council and Deakin University recently held its annual Tertiary Business Skills Program breakfast with the network of businesses part of the program. The breakfast highlighted the importance of student internships, not only for students but also for businesses.
Whitehorse Mayor Councillor Andrew Davenport said the breakfast was a great opportunity for businesses to network and for those who had not taken part to understand more about the benefits of hosting an intern.
The breakfast featured Rishabh Bhaskar, a recent Deakin graduate who took part in the program. He spoke about his positive experience and said he kept in touch with the business he interned for, and valued the time he spent with them.
The Whitehorse Tertiary Business Skills Program – currently in its 10th year – was recently recognised for its extremely successful program at the prestigious National Local Government Innovation Awards.
“Council’s Investment and Economic Development department was very proud to receive the award for putting this successful program together,” Cr Davenport said.
The National Local Government Innovation Awards celebrate the efforts and achievements of local government projects that focus on providing services in a more efficient and useful way and who have demonstrated an efficient use of resources.
“These awards recognise best value and practice, with finalists assessed on their outstanding innovation, effort and outcomes,” Cr Davenport said.
The Whitehorse Tertiary Business Skills Program is part of Deakin Business School’s Work Integrated Learning program, and continually support students to ensure they are given the competitive edge after graduation.
