Strong industry links underpin business analytics conference

Wrap-up of 2017 Business Analytics Conference

Leading industry practitioners and researchers were among the featured speakers at Deakin’s recent 2017 Business Analytics Conference.

Hosted by the Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics (DISBA), the conference provided an important forum for analytics professionals and researchers to showcase their research and insights across key analytics areas such as health, education, security, utility, and business intelligence.

With more than 100 delegates, the conference was held at Deakin’s CBD corporate centre, Deakin Downtown, and was also streamed live for interstate and international participation. It featured representatives from key organisations including IBM Research, KPMG, Yellowfin BI, Cengage Learning, Altis Consulting, Jemena, Taxi Services Commission and Victoria University.

Conference organiser Dr William Yeoh, director of Deakin’s IBM Centre of Excellence in Business Analytics, said the event highlighted DISBA’s strong connection to industry and its commitment to cutting-edge research.

‘The courses at DISBA are well-known for their industry relevance.  The support of our industry partners – in the form of industry guest lectures, certification workshops, prizes, scholarships, software provision, trainings, industry advisory board and more – have benefitted our students tremendously.’

Feedback from delegates was overwhelmingly positive and Executive Dean Prof. Mike Ewing also made special certificate presentations in recognition of the valued contribution by DISBA’s industry partners

Dr Yeoh acknowledged the support behind the success of the conference.

‘I would like to extend a huge “thank you” to the organising committee, volunteers and the Deakin Downtown team and also Cengage Learning and the Australian Computer Society for providing door gifts.’
