Corporate political activities and corporate financial outcomes.
Research Professor of Accounting and Finance, Professor Ferdinand Gul, delivered his inaugural public lecture as an Alfred Deakin Professor in late 2016 to over 100 attendees on corporate political activities and corporate financial outcomes.
Sponsored by ACCA and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, Professor Gul’s lecture drew upon the works of Francis Fukuyama and theories of political economy to provide a conceptual framework that helps explain the role of corporate political activities. Specifically, he examined the impact of firms' political connections, corporate lobbying and political donations in influencing corporate finance, financial reporting and auditing. The discussion included empirical evidence from Malaysia, US and Australia.
