Following on from the incredible success of the 2015 event, GovHack – a national open data hackathon – will again make Geelong home from 29-31 July.

The 2015 event drew together stakeholders from local government, academia, local businesses and students in a two day 'hackathon'. 10 projects were delivered in two days by over 50 attendees. 

Site lead, Kathy Reid, is thrilled to be bringing the event back to Geelong.

'We were very excited to see that  the inaugural GovHack Geelong event was so successful, and we're looking forward to being able to grow it into an even bigger and better event in its second year.

'We have really strong representation from many sectors in Geelong – academia, local government, industry and federal agencies.'

GovHack Geelong is a natural complement for many other initiatives that are seeking to transform Geelong into a thriving information-based economy. There are strong synergies between GovHack Geelong, Pivot Summit, Digital Geelong, Silicon Bay and The National Year of Digial Inclusion. 

The GovHack event itself has become a driving force for #opendata in Australia. The event has grown from a select group of government agencies and a dedicated cohort of data practitioners into a national event which this year sees over 1500 participants, all levels of government, and almost all states and territories participating to make use of this billion dollar digital asset.
