"This international recognition affirms that DBS offers the very best in sport management education."
Deakin Business School’s (DBS) Master of Business (Sport Management) has again been ranked in the world’s top 10 sport management programs by SportBusiness International (SBI).
This international recognition affirms that DBS offers the very best in sport management education and beyond that, cements the high employability of DBS graduates.
Now in their fifth year, the annual SBI Postgraduate Sports Rankings grade the quality of postgraduate sport management courses around the world. To determine rankings, alumni of entered institutions are surveyed on topics including employment opportunities and quality of teaching.
In 2016, Deakin’s program was globally ranked number 7, up from 9th last year, and was the only Australian university in the top 25.
Professor David Shilbury, Chair in Sport Management, says this achievement confirms Deakin’s position as Australia's number one university for sport management.
‘It’s a fantastic result. The fact that we are also ranked 5th for graduate salaries and in the top 5 courses in the world in the ‘Course Leaders’ Choice’ category, reinforces that we produce some of the best and brightest sport minds right here at DBS.’
With over 11 million people participating in sport each year, Australia has one of the strongest sporting sectors in the world. And, underpinning this multi-billion dollar industry are the business professionals who provide direction and leadership to sporting organisations across the country.
Professor Shilbury explains that there are significant opportunities for those who acquire professional expertise in managing this growing industry, and DBS is proud to deliver internationally recognised, cutting-edge education in the field.
‘Beyond the obvious positives of holding such an important ranking, this international recognition also reinforces that we reach our goals in equipping students with the education they need to be competitive and successful throughout their careers.
‘It is also testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff, students, industry advisory boards and academic leaders,’ he says.
‘We are confident that choosing sport management at DBS will put students in the best possible position for future success and the 2016 SBI rankings only confirm this.’
