"The SDSCP is an outstanding opportunity for our students."
Seven postgraduate sport management students have once again arrived in San Diego, California, to represent Deakin Business School (DBS) at the annual San Diego Sports Consulting Project (SDSCP).
Created in 2011, the program is managed by Ohio University and aims to provide students with an experience they will remember as one of the most meaningful and important ones in their personal and professional development.
Dr Sheila Nguyen, Director, Master of Business (Sport Management), explains that during their stay, students will have the unique opportunity to bring their own perspectives and also share industry insights with colleagues from around the globe.
‘The SDSCP is an outstanding opportunity for our students.
‘It’s a rare, leading-edge program that widens students’ views of sport industry delivery, promotion and experience. It genuinely complements and enhances the Deakin sport management program,’ she says.
Dr Nguyen adds that participating DBS students represent various Australian organisations, including, the AFL and Tennis Australia.
‘This means students not only gain valuable international insights for their own purposes, but can also contribute to the experience, by sharing and discussing current Australian industry standards and processes.
‘It gives students an opportunity to leverage their existing business skills, as well as develop new ones, in an exciting and challenging sport business environment.’
Participants work on projects ranging from consulting work for the San Diego Padres (Major League Baseball), to the Torrey Pines golf tournament and the Rock’n’Roll Marathon.
Each team will make a final presentation of recommendations to their assigned client at the end of the two-week program.
2016 marks the second year DBS students are participating and our cohort includes Molly Daft, Kjelt Schipper, Harrison Shannon-Brown, Ankit Singh, Ronnie Benjamin, Beau Tran, and Michael Gray.’
