DBS student business internship reflections – Part 2

"I am grateful that Deakin has assisted me in finding this internship."

This week we are hearing from students who are participating in the Enterprise Geelong Tertiary Business Skills Program.

Stephen Wilson (Bachelor of Commerce) – Rodgers Reidy

‘At the moment I work two days a week at Rodgers Reidy as part of the internship. They offer insolvency, forensic and financial reconstruction / turnaround services, which means they work with people to find the best solutions for their business, which might be experiencing financial difficulty.

I've gained lots of knowledge and skills from my experience already, including learning about the company and its role in dealing with insolvency. I've been given plenty of tasks to complete and have gained a thorough understanding of the implications that come with insolvency.

What I have experienced thus far includes updating precedents for future jobs, policy and procedures, being present at insolvency meetings, data entry and other minor tasks. As time goes on I am enjoying the internship more and more and it is giving me an insight into what a typical day at the office looks like.

The internship will assist me with my career by the way of the skills and experiences I've gained and of course it has boosted my motivation for starting a career once I finish my degree.

When I finish my degree, I will not just walk out with a piece of paper but also with a network of connections and with valuable internship experiences on my resume.

I am grateful that Deakin has assisted me in finding this internship, as it is not always easy to gain such valuable experiences whilst studying.’
