"Do you like designing? Working with data? Developing games and websites?"
GovHack is an annual open data competition held all over Australia and New Zealand. Teams compete for some great prizes as well as for the honour and fame at the Red Carpet Awards. This year Gov Hack is coming to Geelong and will be held at the Geelong Waterfront Campus between 3 – 5 July 2015.
Basically it's about getting the best and brightest, working with government data to innovate and create. It is about encouraging and celebrating our technical and creative capacity, connecting citizens with government for great outcomes, and building upon the social and economic value of open data published by government.
In 46 hours teams create a proof of concept and a video that tells the story of how the data can be re-used. Many of the concepts are innovative community apps or websites. There are usually also many entries mashing up data and displaying it in an informative visualisation or a creative artistic display.
