Twitter MD Karen Stocks shares exclusive social media tips

"Why tweet? Because it gives you millions of moments to engage."

Twitter is fast becoming a way for business leaders to craft their identity, execute their strategy, and make and shape the news. But how can you use Twitter to meet your corporate and leadership objectives?

With the view of offering professional development and networking opportunities to current students and alumni, Deakin Business School invited Karen Stocks (@kazstocks), Managing Director of Twitter Australia and a Deakin MBA graduate, to discuss the role of Twitter in business, leadership and corporate strategy at the Twitter for Leaders event.

MBA Program Director, Dr Colin Higgins says the event was a huge success and received very positive feedback.

'Our mission is all about driving the digital frontier and using emerging technologies to make it relevant for our community and this was a great example of leveraging our fantastic alumni to provide our students with unprecedented insight.

'Attendees learnt about Twitter's power of connectedness and how the platform is used by companies as a powerful means to craft their identities,' he says.

During the evening Karen touched on topics such as 'Can anything really be deleted anymore?', 'Why tweet' and 'Business has changed, we don't leave ourselves behind'.

With Deakin's solid investment in online learning, topics like these are some of the features rated consistently high by our MBA students and their employers, emphasising the importance and relevance of such events.

The event was hosted on 4 March 2015 at the Deakin City Centre and you can view attendees' tweets and discussions via the following hashtags: #Deakin #DeakinMBA.

Karen Stocks is currently responsible for the Australian operations of Twitter, including advertising business and operations. Prior to joining Twitter she was Managing Director (Mobile and social solutions) for Google, with responsibility for sales strategy and commercialisation for Google's mobile and social advertising products.
